Bill Ready, CEO of Pinterest

I’ve always been inspired by the work that employees do outside of Pinterest, donating time to causes and communities they care about. To further support employees’ passion for helping others, Pinterest will match up to $1,000 in donations per employee every year to nonprofit organizations of their choice. This is part of our Social Impact and Philanthropy efforts guided by our mission to bring everyone the inspiration to create a life they love.

Combating Antisemitism in the US Fund

From Squirrel Hill to Charlottesville to Colleyville, tragic events in recent years have brought long overdue attention to the spike in antisemitism in the United States. Roughly 1 in 4 American Jews say they experienced antisemitism in the past year -- with reports of hate crimes against Jews hitting all-time highs. Indeed, Jews make up less than 3 percent of the US population, but the majority of reported religiously based hate crimes target Jewish people or institutions. This fund features and supports the leading nonprofits that are tackling those trends, by tracking and combatting antisemitism in the US.

Asians@ Lunar New Year 2022 Fund

Tuesday, February 1 marks the beginning of a new calendar year for folks that use moon cycles as months! It is a huge cultural moment of celebration for many Asian cultures. To celebrate the year of the tiger, Asians@ is not only bringing the community together via dumpling making classes, but we are also looking to show our support for organizations focused on empowering the Asian community. While we will have more organizations to donate as part of AAPI Heritage Month, we have identified Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF) to spotlight for this year's Lunar New Year. AALDEF works nationwide to protect and promote the civil rights of Asian Americans and to show our support, Pinterest is doing 2:1 donation matching for all donations made between January 26 and Feb 4

The past year and a half has been an especially difficult one for the API community, who has faced unprecedented and unfounded hatred in its wake. Through the bitterness and pain, these experiences have also brought us together and strengthened our community. One of ways Pinterest is celebrating Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month is by providing 2:1 donation matching for all employee donations made to this campaign. We invite you to donate to these various organizations helping to support the API community. Employees can donate to individual organizations in the campaign or to the Fund (collection of organizations) in which your donation will be split evenly between the organizations within the fund. Support for the East Buffalo Community Fund

On May 14, ten people lost their lives while shopping in a local grocery store in East Buffalo - a majority Black community. According to official reports, this was a targeted attack and the majority of victims were Black. Law enforcement officials are currently investigating the shooting as a racially motivated hate crime. The grocery store that the shooting took place at is a food desert and one of the only places for people to shop for groceries in the area. We've chosen FeedMore - West New York and Feed Buffalo who are providing on the ground support to the community impacted. Please consider donating while this community mourns.

Disaster Relief - Hurricane Ian Fund

Hurricane Ian made landfall on Wednesday, September 28 in southwest Florida as Category 4 storm with 150-mph winds. The storm is delivering a catastrophic trifecta of high winds, heavy rain and historic storm surge to the state and is set to cause significant power outages and flooding as it moves at a slow pace across central Florida through the week. We're continuing to monitor the storm and relief needs as the storm continues through the state. We'll add more organizations to this fund as needs present themselves through the disaster.

Disaster Relief - Hurricane Fiona (Puerto Rico) Fund

Hurricane Fiona made landfall on the southwestern coast of Puerto Rico on Sunday 9/18, with maximum sustained winds of 85 mph and rainfall totals exceeding 30” in many areas. The storm caused an island-wide power outage leaving more than 1 million customers in the dark; over 830K were without running water. Floods and landslides have caused catastrophic damage to homes, businesses, and infrastructure. Fiona then devastated the Dominican Republic with heavy rainfall and life-threatening flash flooding. Three people have died; the storm is expected to strengthen as it continues its path across the Caribbean. Puerto Rico continues to suffer under the devastating weight of successive emergencies. Hurricane Fiona battered the island, causing widespread flooding and power outages across communities still trying to recover from the 2020 earthquakes and Hurricane Maria, a category five storm that caused unprecedented destruction five years ago. Your donations to this fund, will support multiple organizations’ initiatives to provide short-term and long-term response and recovery. We have initially selected organizations that are on the ground assisting with immediate relief needs, including rescue efforts and medical assistance. The composition of nonprofits in this fund is subject to change as we learn more about the needs on the ground.

Mexican-American Nonprofits Fund

There are many misconceptions and myths around Cinco de Mayo and its significance in Mexican Culture and History. In the US, it has historically been seen as a day of celebration commonly mistaken for Mexico’s Independence Day. But south of the border, the holiday merits very little as the actual 1862 event is a reminder of a tough outgunned invasion of Puebla by the French army. While it was a battle won it was a war that was lost. In an effort to help shed light about this date we will be using this day not to celebrate but instead to raise awareness and funding about Mexican Heritage and help bring equity and change to those that identify as such and are in need of Legal and Educational resources.
