The Door - A Center of Alternatives, Inc.

The Door’s mission is to empower young people to reach their potential by providing comprehensive youth development services in a diverse and caring environment.The Door was founded in 1972 in response to a convergence of social crises in New York City. A group of young practitioners in medicine, law, social work, and the arts collaborated to create a resource that could address the interrelated systemic barriers affecting youth. As such, The Door was born as a safe haven of alternatives for young people on the margins, dismantling barriers created by race, class, gender, sexual orientation, economic status, and country of origin.
